The front seats can be equipped with either a seat heating system or a seat heating and seat ventilation system. The outer rear seats can be equipped with a seat heating system → .

The seat ventilation function ventilates the seat using vehicle interior air. This removes moisture from the body. The seat itself is not cooled directly.

Heating and ventilation levels

The operation statuses of the seat heating and seat ventilation are sown in red and blue in the Infotainment system.

Seat heating switched off.

Seat heating switched on to the highest heating level.

Seat ventilation switched off.

Seat ventilation switched on at the highest ventilation level.

When should the seat heating and seat ventilation be switched off?

Switch off the seat heating and seat ventilation under any of the following conditions:

  • The seat is occupied by a person with a limited perception of pain or temperature→ .
  • The seat is not occupied
  • A child restraint is installed on the seat
  • Objects are covering the seat, e.g. protective covers, jackets, blankets or bags.
  • The seat is damp or wet.
  • Seat heating only: The interior or exterior temperature is higher than +25 ºC( +77 ºF).

WARNING

Magnetic fields are generated when the seat heating is operated. In individual cases, these magnetic fields can affect active medical implants (e.g. pacemakers).

  • If you wear an active medical implant, you should consult your doctor or the manufacturer of your implant before operating the seat heating.
  • Make your vehicle occupants aware of this as well.

WARNING

People who cannot perceive pain or temperature or who have a limited perception of these due to medication, paralysis, or chronic illnesses such as diabetes could develop burns or undercooling on the back, buttocks, and legs when using seat heating or seat ventilation. Such injuries could take a very long time to heal or may never heal completely.

  • If you have a limited perception of pain and/or temperature, never use the seat heating and seat ventilation, leave the "Automatic seat air conditioning at the beginning of the journey" function switched off (→ Seat air conditioning) and never use the seat air conditioning's automatic mode (→ Seat air conditioning) .
  • Contact a medical doctor for questions about personal health conditions.

WARNING

If the seat cover is soaked through, this can cause the seat heating to malfunction and increase the risk of burns.

  • Make sure the seat surface is dry before using the seat heating function.
  • Never sit on the seat while wearing damp or wet clothing.
  • Do not place any damp or wet objects and clothing on the seat.
  • Do not pour any fluids on the seat.

NOTICE

The heating elements of the seat heating may be damaged by loads concentrated in a single place and insulating materials.

  •  Do not kneel on the seats and do not exert pressure on the seat cushion and backrest with sharp or pointed objects.
  • Do not exert pressure on the seat cushion and backrest with pointed objects.
  • Switch the seat heating off if insulating materials are installed on the seat, e.g. a protective cover or a child restraint.
  • Only use the seat heating if the seat is equipped with the original seat covers.
  • If any odor starts to develop, turn off the seat heating immediately and have it checked by suitably qualified professionals. Volkswagen recommends contacting an authorized Volkswagen dealer or authorized Volkswagen Service Facility.

Using Seat Heating and Seat Ventilation

  1. To switch on seat heating or seat ventilation at the highest heating or ventilation level, tap or at the bottom of the screen.
  2. To adjust the heating or ventilation level, tap or repeatedly.
  3. To switch off the seat heating or seat ventilation, tap repeatedly until or is displayed.

    Or: to switch the seat heating on or off, tap with two fingers on the touch control under the Infotainment system on the driver's or passenger's side.

To save energy, switch off the seat heating and seat ventilation as soon as possible.

The seat heating and seat ventilation switch on and off automatically

If you reactivate the vehicle's drive system within approximately ten minutes, the last heating or ventilation level set for the driver seat is automatically switched on. If the front passenger seat is occupied, the last set heating or ventilation level for the front passenger seat is also automatically switched on.

If the front passenger leaves their seat with the seat heating and seat ventilation switched on and the vehicle's drive system activated, the seat heating and seat ventilation for the front passenger seat will automatically switch off. The display in the Infotainment system changes to or after approx. two seconds. If the front passenger returns to their seat while the vehicle's drive system is still activated, the seat heating and seat ventilation will switch on again automatically for the front passenger seat.

Automatic seat air conditioning at the beginning of the journey

  1. Open the Air conditioner menu in the Infotainment system.
  2. To open the Climate control settings submenu, tap .
  3. To select the heating and ventilation level at the beginning of the journey, tap in the Seat heating or Seat ventilation menu item.

Automatic Mode of the Seat Air Conditioning

The availability of the automatic seat air conditioning function depends on the vehicle equipment.

  1. To open the Seats menu, tap the → fig. 1 (1) function key for the driver's side or the passenger's side.

    Or: select the Seats menu in the app overview.

  2. Select the Seat air conditioning submenu.

Automatic functions in the Seat air conditioning submenu

In automatic mode, seat heating and seat ventilation are controlled depending on the temperature and humidity in the seat. Automatic mode switches off when the heating or ventilation level of the seat heating or seat ventilation is changed manually. You can adjust the intensity of the seat air conditioning in automatic mode in the Seat air conditioning settings submenu.

Maximum heating level of the seat heating for a limited time.

Heating and ventilation combined for a limited time by heating the seat first. After a period of time, the heating level is automatically reduced and the ventilation level increases.

Maximum ventilation level for the seat ventilation for a limited time.

After this period, the seat air conditioning's automatic mode will remain switched on.

Displays of the Automatic Seat Air Conditioning

If you switch on the seat air conditioning's automatic mode, the following operating statuses of the automatic seat air conditioning will be displayed in the climate control bar.

Seat heating and seat ventilation switched off.

Seat heating switched on and seat ventilation switched off.

Seat heating switched off and seat ventilation switched on.

Seat heating and seat ventilation switched on.

Setting the Intensity of the Seat Air Conditioning

The intensity settings help if you would like to heat or ventilate the backrest of the driver seat more intensively than the seat cushion.

  1. Open the Seats menu.
  2. Open the Settings submenu.
  3. Select the Seat air conditioning settings menu item.
  4. Select the driver's side or the passenger's side.
  5. To adjust the intensity of the seat heating or seat ventilation, move the sliders for the seat cushion and backrest to the right or left.

    If you select a higher intensity, the seat cushion and backrest will be heated or ventilated more intensively and for longer.

Steering wheel heating

Switch the steering wheel heating on and off in the Air conditioner menu.

Switch steering wheel heating on and off via the multi-function steering wheel.

Heating levels for the steering wheel heating

The steering wheel heating modes are shown by colors in the Infotainment system. At the highest heating level, the symbol is red.

Operating steering wheel heating

  1. Open the Air conditioner menu in the Infotainment system (→ Air conditioner menu in the Infotainment system) .
  2. To switch on steering wheel heating at the highest heating level, tap .

    Or: tap on the multi-function steering wheel.

  3. To adjust the heating level, tap repeatedly.
  4. To switch off the steering wheel heating, tap repeatedly until the symbol is white.

Steering wheel heating switches on automatically

If you reactivate the vehicle's drive system within approximately ten minutes, the last heating level set is automatically switched on.

Switching on steering wheel heating automatically at the beginning of the journey

  1. Open the Air conditioner menu in the Infotainment system (→ Air conditioner menu in the Infotainment system) .
  2. To open the Climate control settings submenu, tap .
  3. Activate the Steering wheel heating checkbox.

    After drive-ready mode is established, the steering wheel heating is automatically switched on, depending on the outside temperature.

Switching on Steering Wheel Heating automatically with the Smart Climate function

Direct warm air onto the steering wheel.

If you switch on the Smart Climate function in the Air conditioner menu, the steering wheel heating will be switched on at the lowest heating level.

If the steering wheel heating is already switched on before switching on theS mart Climate function , the set heating level of the steering wheel heating remains selected.

Steering wheel heating switches off automatically

If one of the following conditions applies, the steering wheel heating switches off automatically:

  • If the energy use is too high.
  • If the steering wheel heating system is malfunctioning.
